(ANSA) - TRIESTE, FEB 11 - "Encrypted quantum communication is notfundamental only to combat attacks byhackers, but it is a decisive tool in the defense of our democracies. For several months now, the region has already successfully activated an initial quantum link between the two universitiesregional. Now our involvement in Qcimed confirms Fvg's role as a European gateway for advanced technologies and a leading area in communications security." This was said by the Councillor for Information Systems at the presentation of the Mediterranean Quantum Connectivity (Qcimed) project. This is a strategic European initiativeco-funded by the Connecting Europe Facility (Cef) program to develop an advanced quantum communication infrastructure between Italy, Austria and the Mediterranean. The project, coordinated by the CNR and implemented in partnership with the Region, was created as a joint effort of research institutes, territorial entities and technological partners to contribute to the future EuroQci network, an ultra-secure European communication network based on quantum physics. "By becoming a partner of Qcimed, Fvg continues to strengthen its innovative infrastructure, which is fundamental to the Italian and international quantum network," said Callari. "The construction of the new fiber link up to the Coccau pass and the use of the regional Public Network testify to a commitment to cross-border connectivity" by strengthening the "regional position in the European quantum technology landscape. And they are "an excellent opportunity to attract talent and strengthen the competitiveness of the regional system." Interdisciplinary collaboration-capable of integrating expertise in metrology, optics, quantum cryptography, network infrastructure and space applications-is one of the most innovative and distinctive elements of the Qcimed project. The program is also involving the Italian Space Agency, the National Institute of Metrological Research and the Austrian Institute of Technology.
