Germany, agreement on measures for streaming platforms

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 5 - According to government sources, Germany's majority parliamentary groups have reached an agreement on an investment obligation and financial support for film totalling €250 million annually. This is the so-called "Netflix measure," which the CDU-CSU and SPD groups debated. The legislation would require platforms that make significant profits in Europe to invest in European productions proportionate to their market power. This will be accomplished with a statutory base rate of 8% of annual net revenue, specific investment criteria, and a distribution of rights to independent producers. Those who commit to investing 12% or more may benefit from special regulations, such as filming in Germany but in English. (ANSA).
