
(ANSA) - UDINE, JAN 18 - "Fiume or Death!", is the documentary awarded in Berlin at the 38th European Film Awards, the Oscars of European cinema. The work is supported, among others, by the Fondo per l'Audiovisivo del Fvg. This was announced by the same Fund in a note specifying that the documentary, directed by Igor Bezinović, is produced by Erica Barbiani and Lucia Candelpergher for Friuli-based Videomante and that it won in the European Documentary category. The documentary deals with a particular event of the 20th century: the 16-month occupation of the city of Fiume (Rijeka; today Croatia) by the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio and his legionnaires. Bezinovic between archival images from the time and current inhabitants of the city, argues that the town experienced an unexpected transformation. The documentary was produced by, among others, Restart, Croatia in co-production with Videomante and Nosorogi, with support from Croatian Audiovisual Centre, Ministry of Culture, Slovenian Film Center, FVG Audiovisual Fund, Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission, Veneto Film Commission. The preselected fiction and documentary features were chosen by the European Film Academy Board and invited European experts from more than 67 titles. (ANSA).
