The 2024 edition of the Teen Doc Workshop brought together, in Požega / Užice (Serbia) on 20-26 Ausgust, 25 young filmmakers from across the Balkans and Italy, providing them with a unique opportunity to explore documentary filmmaking. Mentored by esteemed directors like Vladimir Perović and Hanis Bagashov, and industry experts such as producer Iva Plemić Divjak, the participants delved into storytelling, media literacy, and production techniques.
They also attended insightful sessions, including case studies from U.S. director Chris Filipone and a discussion on global documentary markets led by Brigid O’Shea. The panel discussion on contemporary artistic challenges, featuring professionals like Wouter Jansen and Doris Bauer, offered further inspiration to these emerging talents.
The workshop culminated in the production of four short documentaries and the participants’ role as the Youth Jury of the Interaction Festival. Their jury awarded the Youth Jury Prize to Teacups, a film by Alec Green and Finbar Watson, praising its emotional depth and the director's bravery in addressing important life themes. The experience not only enriched the participants’ technical skills but also fostered international collaboration, leaving them well-prepared to contribute to the future of documentary filmmaking.
Teen Doc Workshop was organised by IFC Filmart with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Youth of the Republic of Serbia, the Swiss Government through the Culture for Democracy project implemented by the Hartefact Fund, the Central European Initiative (CEI), and the British Council and EU as part of the EDU CUTS network through the “Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans” programme (CC4WBs).
