The International high-level Conference on “Inter-basin Cooperation on Marine Litter: a focus on the Danube River and the Black Sea” took place in Sofia on 4 April. The event was organised by the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC) and the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (ICBSS).
The discussions, which focused on how to tackle marine litter efficiently, paid special attention to the Danube River and the Black Sea basin. The aim of the event was to facilitate exchange of knowledge and best practices among renowned experts, business and policymakers and government officials.
Mr. Neno Dimov, Minister of Environment and Water of the Republic of Bulgaria and Ms. Emilia Kraleva, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs gave introductory remarks, along with BSEC representatives. A short video message came from EU Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Mr. Karmenu Vella.
