The 7th SEE Mosaics Meeting, held in Ljubljana and Celje, Slovenia, on 13–16 October 2026, brought together experts and professionals from across the region to exchange knowledge and best practices in mosaic heritage conservation, restoration and protection.

Organised by the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia and the National Museum of Serbia, the meeting focused on “Reconsidering Protection of Mosaic Heritage in the Face of Climate Challenges: Conservation, Preservation and Restoration” (ho messo link al programma), highlighting the growing impact of climate change on cultural heritage and the need for sustainable conservation approaches.

The four-day programme featured expert presentations and discussions on environmental risks affecting archaeological mosaics, innovative conservation techniques and the use of digital technologies, including photogrammetry, 3D modelling and immersive experiences. Particular attention was devoted to the long-term sustainability of in situ conservation in the context of changing climatic conditions.

The participants were welcomed by Blaž Peršin, Director of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana; Jernej Hudolin, Director General of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia; Vilijem Leban, Acting Director-General of the Cultural Heritage Directorate at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia; and Dr Maja Franković, representative of the National Museum of Serbia and co-author of the SEE Mosaics project.

The programme also included technical visits to cultural heritage and restoration sites in Ljubljana and a professional excursion to Celje, providing opportunities for practical exchanges among participants.

The meeting underscored the importance of regional cooperation, interdisciplinary expertise and knowledge-sharing in addressing common challenges to cultural heritage preservation, while promoting coordinated and sustainable conservation practices.
