Declaration of the Presidency of the Central European Initiative

The Presidency of the Central European Initiative is increasingly concerned about the situation in parts of Eastern Ukraine and urges Russia to stop the increased flow of weapons, military personnel and militants across the Russian Ukrainian border as those are blatant violations of international law. While firmly condemning the intensified aggression towards Ukraine, the CEI Presidency requests that Russia immediately cease all forms of support for the separatist groups in Ukraine.

The Presidency of the Central European Initiative underlines that the Russian actions in parts of Eastern Ukraine are jeopardising the efforts aimed at de-escalating the crisis.

The Presidency of the Central European Initiative stresses that a political, sustainable solution to the crisis, based on dialogue, is the only acceptable solution and a matter of urgency. A solution should be based on the respect of territorial integrity and its sovereignty within its internationally recognised borders, President Poroshenko’s peace plan and a genuine and sustainable cease fire by all parties. In this respect the Presidency of the Central European Initiative recalls the Berlin Declaration of 2 July and the Minsk Meeting of 26 August. The CEI Presidency underlines the fact that positive and concrete action towards a peaceful solution is requested from Russia.

The Presidency of the Central European Initiative strongly supports and encourages all further efforts to solve the crisis, especially also the OSCE undertakings.

The Presidency of the Central European Initiative is increasingly concerned by the humanitarian impact of the crisis in parts of Eastern Ukraine and calls for humanitarian help and support.
