On 24 September 2026, strengthening regional cooperation as a contribution to effective multilateralism, enhancing connectivity, and supporting Ukraine were among the key issues discussed at the "CEI Ministerial Meeting on Regional Cooperation", held in New York under the Romanian CEI Presidency on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The meeting, attended by several Foreign Ministers, provided an opportunity to take stock of the CEI’s current priorities and discuss the future direction of the Organisation, including the preparation of the CEI Plan of Action 2027–2030 and prospects for closer cooperation with the European Commission.
The Ministerial gathering concluded CEI Secretary General Franco Dal Mas’s mission to New York. During the week, he also participated in the meeting of the "Friends of the Western Balkans" and in the Sixth Summit of the "International Crimea Platform", reaffirming the CEI’s commitment to European integration, regional connectivity, and continued support for Ukraine.
On the margins of the UN General Assembly High-Level Week, Secretary General Dal Mas also had brief exchanges with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy; Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković; Prime Minister of North Macedonia Hristijan Mickoski; Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha; Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković; and President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola.
