Declaration by Austrian Minister for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs, Sebastian Kurz, on behalf of CEI Presidency

The Presidency of the Central European Initiative (CEI) is gravely concerned by the violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity by Russian armed forces and calls on Russia for an immediate withdrawal.

The Presidency of the CEI underlines the importance of the respect of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine including Crimea.

The Presidency of the CEI calls for a peaceful solution to the current crisis and full respect of the principles of international law laid down in the UN Charter and the OSCE Helsinki Final Act.

The Presidency of the CEI as the oldest and largest Central European Organisation underlines the importance for the Ukrainian government to ensure the inclusiveness of all Ukrainian authorities in order to secure full protection of national minorities and looks forward to close cooperation with Ukraine to this end.

The Presidency of the CEI hopes that through dialogue a lasting solution to the crisis between Ukraine and Russia can be found in order that 2014 – one hundred years after the outbreak of World War I - will be a real year of international peace.
