Serbia: media, early election possible on Mar. 31 or Apr. 14

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JAN 21 - Possible early elections in Serbia, which are increasingly being discussed, could be held on March 31 or April 14, according to Belgrade-based newspaper Blic. The deadline of the legislature would be the spring 2020. According to the daily newspaper, in the event of an early election, Sinisa Mali, finance minister who was Belgrade mayor, might have the biggest chance to lead a new government, taking Ana Brnabic's place. President Aleksandar Vucic, speaking this morning on public television RTS, neither confirmed nor denied a possible early voting, underlining that for such a decision it is necessary to examine many factors related to the country's current situation and future prospects. ''It's a complex decision'' said Vucic, leader of the Serbian Progress Party (Sns, Conservative), the majority force that - according to a latest poll released today - is given 55% of the vote, far more than 14%, that is the percentage the heterogeneous opposition coalition is given. The president confirmed that all the leaders of his party are in favor of early voting. ''I do not rule out the possibility of elections, but that decision depends on many other factors that affect the future of Serbia'', Vucic said. (ANSA).
