(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 09 OTT - The German team MW won the sixth edition of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce, Italy's sailing circumnavigation race, after a nonstop, 1,560-mile offshore voyage from Genoa to Trieste. The French crew Caracole Rorc finished second and won the Repubbliche Marinare (Maritime Republics) award for the fastest overall time across the gates in Pisa, Amalfi, and Venice. The British team Red Dragon rounded out the podium in third place. Fourth place went to Fati Group, the highest-ranked Italian crew. The awards ceremony took place today in Trieste during the 58th Barcolana regatta and the stopover of the Amerigo Vespucci naval ship, which was returning from its global tour (the Vespucci World Tour/North American campaign). The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce is an initiative of the Ministry of Defence, the Italian Navy, and Difesa Servizi, organized in collaboration with SSI Sports & Events. It enjoys institutional partnerships with the Minister for Sport and Youth, the Ministry of Tourism, Valore Paese Italia, the Liguria Region, and the Municipality of Genoa. "With a non-stop course of over 1,500 nautical miles to Trieste," noted Luca Andreoli, CEO of Difesa Servizi, "this stands out as the longest regatta in the Mediterranean—a race sailed by an identical fleet, with crews required to qualify for participation given the more than 20 entries from around the world." The top three finishers arrived in less than half an hour, demonstrating their impressive level of performance." Finally, he concluded that "the real winners are the Italian sea and Italian sailing, which are unquestionably at the centre of the world right now." (ANSA).
