(ANSA) - UDINE, 29 SET - Air-lifted by helicopter, two summit crosses have returned to the peaks of Canin Piccolo and Mount Canin, at an altitude of 2,587 meters, after being restored and secured in a project involving volunteers, institutions and local organizations from both Italy and Slovenia. Resia Mayor Anna Micelli announced the news. The initiative, concerning one of the landmark massifs of the Julian Alps in the province of Udine, was launched by a group of mountain enthusiasts, particularly from the Resia Valley, some of them linked to the experience of the Gruppo dei Ghiri di Resia, which since the 1980s has played a leading role in promoting the area's mountains and the Alta Via Resiana high-altitude trail. "This project restores dignity to two deeply cherished symbols and strengthens the bond between the communities living at the foot of Mount Canin," Micelli said. The municipalities of Resia, Resiutta, Chiusaforte, and Bovec supported the project, along with the Val Resia Ecomuseum, the Julian Prealps Nature Park, the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional branch of the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), and the 8th Alpine Regiment based in Venzone. Eurostratex, Carpenteria Sclauzero, Di Centa & Di Ronco, ASD Val Resia and Elifriulia also contributed. Father Alberto Zannier, parish priest of the Resia Valley, Pontebba, and Dogna, blessed the crosses. The organizers said the project restored not only two summit structures, "but symbols tied to the memory of the communities of Resia, Resiutta, Chiusaforte and Bovec, and to the history of a mountain shared by Italy and Slovenia."
