(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUN 8 - The European Commission has expressed "concern" about the mega-luxury resort on Sazan Island promoted by Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and has requested that Albania "refrain from actions" that could jeopardise its path to EU membership. "We have already expressed our concerns to the Environment Minister about the potential shortcomings of this project," a Commission spokesperson said, emphasising Tirana's commitment to suspend work and conduct "a full environmental impact assessment for the project, in consultation with civil society." According to Brussels, the project is also under investigation by the SPAK (Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office), which reportedly extends beyond environmental concerns. "Our concerns," he explained, "are not new. As stated in our previous enlargement report, the repeated extension of the Strategic Investment Law raises concerns about potential environmental consequences, particularly in protected areas."
