Slovenia, second track on the Divača-Koper symbolically inagurated

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, MAR 11 - A new rail track between Divača and Koper, in Slovenia, was symbolically inaugurated on Wednesday, but the line will be fully operational once it receives its operating permit, the Slovenian news agency STA reported today. Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, Infrastructure Minister Alenka Bratušek and executives from Slovenian Railways and 2TDK. the public company managing the works on the line, arrived at the ceremony in Koper on a test train running on the new, 27.1-kilometre track. The track will increase capacity from 98 to 212 trains, shorten the rail distance on the Divača-Koper section from 44.6 to 27.1 kilometres, and raise the maximum possible train speed on the section from 65-75 km/h to up to 160 km/h, STA informed. The construction of a parallel track on the new line will start in the near future, while the old "existing line will be returned to the environment as a sustainable cycling route, enhancing its tourism value", Infrastructure Minister Alenka Bratušek was quoted as saying.
