(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 26 - Hungary violated European Union law by preventing the Klubrádió radio station from continuing to broadcast on their frequencies. The Court of Justice of the EU ruled today, upholding the majority of the Commission's infringement complaints. According to the Luxembourg judges, the Hungarian Media Council's decisions, which in 2021 denied the licence renewal to the historic commercial radio station, a progressive critic of the Orbán government, and then cancelled its participation in a new tender, were based on disproportionate and opaque criteria. Minor administrative irregularities were the real reason for the denial of renewal. (ANSA).
