Hungary, Orban seeks to dismiss municipal appeals against new tax

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, FEB 6 - The Orban government has issued a decree ordering the dismissal of all lawsuits filed by Hungarian municipalities against the treasury for "unfair" taxes, which critics have condemned as executive interference in justice. After the government implemented a new tax known as the "solidarity contribution," many municipalities, particularly in Budapest, complained that it would bankrupt them. As a result, municipalities have filed lawsuits challenging the measure, and the government is now attempting to dismiss them with a decree that legal experts say is unconstitutional. (ANSA).
