Kosovo ends parliamentary stalemate

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCT 10 - In Kosovo, the new stalemate over the election of one of the Serb minority's five vice-speaker seats in parliament has ended. Nenad Rasic, leader of the Freedom and Justice Party, a minor opposition party to Belgrade's leadership, was elected today. Rasic competes with Srpska Lista (SL), Kosovo's largest Serb party, which has close ties to Belgrade's leadership. Nine of the Serb minority's ten MPs in the Pristina parliament are from Srpska Lista, with one representing Rasic's party. His election, which received 71 votes in favour, nine against, and 24 abstentions, came after none of Srpska Lista's nine candidates met the quorum. The SL leadership objected, claiming that Srpska Lista should be the parliament's vice-president because it has nine out of ten deputies. (ANSA).
