(ANSA) - ROME, 09 OTT - The future of Ukraine and Europe's role in ensuring security and stability were the focus of the conference "The Present and Future of Ukraine. The Role of the Coalition of the Willing in Supporting Ukraine", organised in Rome by the Centre for International Studies (CSI) at the European Parliament headquarters. The initiative, promoted as part of the "Westminster Alliance for Ukraine" (WA4U) project and moderated by Emanuele Errichiello, deputy director of the CSI and Italian representative of WA4U, brought together parliamentarians, diplomats, academics and experts to analyse the prospects for the conflict and strategies for post-war stabilisation. During the proceedings, CSI Director Francesco Gaudiosi and President Antonio Virgili emphasised 'the value of dialogue and cooperation in an increasingly interconnected and fluid geopolitical context', noting that 'no European nation can tackle challenges of this complexity alone'. These concepts were also shared by the promoters of the WA4U project, former British MP Roger Casale and activist Xhabir Deralla, who highlighted the need for a united European front in support of Kiev. Senator Filippo Sensi and member of Parliament Emanuele Loperfido spoke on behalf of Italy, reiterating the support of Italian parliamentarians for the Ukrainian democratic system. The Director-General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Francesco Tufarelli, highlighted the importance of dialogue between institutions, academia and civil society in defining operational proposals. From the United Kingdom, Laurence Donaghy outlined the British government's position, stressing the need for a cohesive European response. Among the technical contributions, General Vincenzo Camporini, former Chief of Defence Staff, observed that 'the only truly viable European cooperation in the field of security in Ukraine remains that based on coordinated national efforts'. Nona Mikhelidze (IAI) described the possibility of a stable ceasefire as 'illusory', while Professor Ida Caracciolo of Vanvitelli University analysed the legal aspects of the so-called Coalition of the Willing. In closing, Errichiello reiterated the need for Europe to 'act in a coordinated, consistent and effective manner in terms of security' at a time when 'the global system is undergoing reorganisation'.
