
(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 18 - The final breakthrough was achieved Thursday in the exploratory tunnel for the Brenner Base Tunnel, the first underground connection between Italy and Austria and what will be the longest rail tunnel in the world. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, her Austrian counterpart Christian Stoker, and Rome's Transport Minister Matteo Salvini and his Vienna counterpart. Once completed, it will be the longest railway tunnel in the world at 65 kilometers. (ANSA).
