The Balkans have returned to the EU's priorities: Amb. Gori

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 17 - "After many years, EU enlargement has once again become a priority on Brussels' agenda and, more importantly, a strategic focus for the European Union, especially in light of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. There is new momentum regarding enlargement, and significant progress has been made in the Balkans. The current challenge is encouraging these countries to seize this opportunity, particularly Serbia, which should advance to Cluster 3 of the negotiations." This was stated by the Italian Ambassador to Belgrade, Luca Gori, in an interview with ANSA on the sidelines of the Ambassadors' Conference. He added, "This European perspective is becoming a crucial element not only for the region but also for the security architecture of Europe. Italy is one of the most committed countries in advocating for this direction." Ambassador Gori emphasized, "The relationship with Serbia and the Balkans is central to our foreign policy strategy. We are working on organizing a bilateral summit with Serbia after more than ten years, planned for the end of January. This will be an opportunity to focus on all our projects and programs with Serbia across various sectors, including agriculture, trade, economic development, and customs cooperation. In summary, we will work on multiple fronts to revitalize the relationship between Italy and Serbia, which is already strong in terms of political dialogue and economic and trade exchanges." (ANSA).
