Weber, 'let there be a clear roadmap for Tirana and Skopje'

(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, JUN 22 - "The EPP will call for a clear roadmap' for the EU accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia," said the chairman of the EPP party and group leader in the Europarliament Manfred Weber, ahead of the European Council meeting that will see the 27 EU member states give the green light to Ukraine's and Moldova's candidacies. The EPP aims to call for a concrete road map for the Western Balkans, and party sources explain that they "understand the frustration" in the region. The discontent could lead to postponing the summit between the EU and the Western Balkans scheduled ahead of the European Council. However, Weber does not blame the impasse over Albania and North Macedonia solely on the Bulgarian veto. The chairman underlined that Macron committed "a historic mistake' by slowing down the accession process in the past months." "Let's return to the roadmap there and show leadership," Weber remarked.
