Covid: Slovenia, new cases at all-time-high

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JAN 19 - Slovenia recorded 12,286 coronavirus infections on Tuesday, the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic. The previous record was registered just on Monday, with 8,681 people testing positive that day, the Slovenian news agency STA reported today. On Tuesday, 63.2% of PCR tests came back positive, according to the Slovenian National Institute of Public Health (NIJZ). However, the real number of new infections could be much higher. "Labs in the country are overwhelmed and can no longer analyse all samples in the same day. On Monday, more than 8,000 samples came in for analysis at the Institute for Microbiology and Immunology and 2,300 were left for the next day," STA wrote today. Authorities expect Slovenia will reach the peak of the current wave on January 26, with hospitalisations possibly rising after that day. (ANSA).
