The ANSA New Europe Web Portal was officially presented yesterday, 16 September, in Trieste at the seat of the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia with the EC Vice President Viviane Reding, the European Affairs Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi, CEI Secretary General Ambassador Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, the President of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia Debora Serracchiani, and ANSA editor in chief, Luigi Contu. The event took place in the framework of the final event of the "Citizens' Dialogue" initiative promoted by the European Commission.
A bilateral meeting between the Italian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Emma Bonino and the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti took place on 9 September in Rome.  Discussions focused on the Bank’s investments in the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region, in particular on Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia. Both top officials agreed upon the need for the international community to continue in its endeavor of facilitating the path to stable democracies in the region.  
On the occasion of the official opening of the 28th Vilenica International Literary Festival on 11 September 2013 in Koper (Slovenia), the CEI Fellowship for Writers in Residence will be presented to Artem Chapeye from Ukraine.
  The CEI Fellowship winner was selected by the Fellowship Jury composed of Patrizia Vascotto (Italy) as President, Namita Subiotto (Slovenia) as Vice President, Ludwig Hartinger (Austria), Dragica Potocnjak (Slovenia) and Jani Virk (Slovenia):
Investment perspectives in railway connections with Slovenia and Croatia,  transport development, the TEN-T network extension to Croatia, were the topics discussed during the technical meeting on 19 July 2013 at the CEI premises in Trieste.

A meeting of the National Focal Points for Science and Technology of the Central European Initiative took place on 8-10 July 2013 in Trieste. The objective was to provide an in-depth analysis of the CEI pilot projects to promote research and innovation through centers and groups of scientific excellence in the West Balkans, the Danube Region and other CEI countries.

Promoting cross-border territorial development, enhancing access to culture and cultural production, supporting young musicians, overcoming physical, cultural and political barriers: these are the objectives at the core of the first edition of the Cross-border Music Festival ECHOS, which will take place in Italy and Slovenia from 19 July to 12 September 2013.

EDITS 2nd Project Management Team Meeting took place in Budapest, Hungary on June26th 2013. The meeting was attended by the leaders of the main actions with the focus on the current state of the art and next steps to be implemented. This concerned mainly the state of the art analysis concerning the existing data modeling methodologies, systems and services, screening of relevant standards, legal frameworks and of project results. Moreover, EDITS partners defined the user needs and services to be provided consequently.
In the framework of the KEP project “Monitoring SME Policy implementation in the Western Balkans” co-financed by the CEI Fund at the EBRD, entirely supported by Italy, a workshop was organised in Trento on 3-4 July 2013 at the premises of the OECD LEED Trento Centre for Local Development.  

Last 28 June the CEI participated in the EU Conference «Improving passengers’ mobility through ICT enabled multimodal information provision», organized in Thessaloniki, and presented the "Rail4SEE" project. The conference gathered local and national stakeholders and experts, representatives of national railway operators, the South-East Europe Programme representatives etc.

The previous day the CEI took part in 3rd Management and steering group partner of the RAIL4SEE project - Rail Hub Cities for South East Europe.

On 27 June 2013 the concluding seminar of the project “Know-how for Donetsk Region – strengthening of administrative structures and regional development in Ukraine” was held in Poznan. The project is supported by the CEI in the framework of the Know-how Exchange Programme (KEP) and co-financed by Italy through the CEI Fund at the EBRD.

The South East Europe Programme (SEE) Annual Event 2013 took place on 19 June, 2013 in Bucharest, Romania with the aim to sum up SEE achievements for the period 2007-2013 in view of the new Programmes in the area.

The first session focused on main macro-regional strategies and policies as the basis for the development of the Programmes: the Danube Strategy for the Danube Programme and Adriatic-Ionian Strategy for the South East Gateway.

Within the framework of the EU-funded project “Accessibility improved at border crossings for the integration of South East Europe” (ACROSSEE) the first seminar  with the European Commission was held on 18 June in Brussels at the premises of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region office.
The National Coordinators of the Central European Initiative met  in Vienna on 10 June 2013. In his welcome speech, Mr. Johannes Kyrle, Secretary General for Foreign Affairs, expressed his appreciation for the Hungarian CEI Presidency.
Organised by the Ministry for National Economy, Tourism Department, within the framework of the  Hungarian CEI Presidency of 2013, the CEI Expert Meeting on “Opportunities of Transnational Tourism Development in CEI countries” took place in Godollo (Budapest) on 6 June 2013.  
The CEI and the South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO), in special partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), have opened applications for the 2013 edition of the Award for Outstanding Merits in Investigative Journalism. This year the Award is including two sections: Professional Journalists (4.000 EUR) and Young Journalists up to 30 years of age (1.000 EUR).    
The 5th Annual Meeting of the Regional Cooperation Council on 30 May 2013 in Ohrid, Macedonia was co-chaired by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia Nikola Poposki and the RCC Secretary General Goran Svilanovic.
 
The European population is getting older which means that the number of people over 65 years of age is increasing. The ageing trend presents numerous social changes and challenges, for which adequate solutions need to be found. Ten partners from Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have just launched the “WIDER” project – “Green groWing of SMEs: Innovation and Development in the energy sector in mEd aRea”.
"Innovations and Changing Roles of Diplomacy and Diplomatic Training" was the main focus of this year’s 16th edition of the Dubrovnik Diplomatic Forum, held in Dubrovnik on 23-25 May 2013.  
“Adriatic-Ionian Macroregions as a response to common challenges in the region and a mechanism for EU accession of WB states to the EU” was the focus of the XV Adriatic and Ionian Council held in Brussels, on 27 May, under the Slovenian Presidency of the Adriatic and Ionian Initiative (AII).

One-week training for 30 state administration officials from Bosnia and Herzegovina is organised this week in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.  The training “Western Balkans getting closer to the EU. Strengthening the capacity of the state institutions to meet the integration challenges today” is organized by the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute together with its partner the Hanns-Seidel Foundation.
