Trends in medicinal and pharma biotechnologies in Europe

Strengthening Regional Cooperation Including Central Eastern Europe was the main objective of the workshop, organised by the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Trnava, Slovakia on 2-4 June.

Experts, representatives of international centres and of governments, scientists and industrial researchers, technologists from different CEI Member States gathered together with their peers from Austria, Germany and the Netherlands. The CEI, through its Cooperation Fund, covered the attendence costs of participants from its Member States.

The workshop addressed topics related to the field of Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Biotechnologies (Ph/M BT); their current trends and prospects in Europe, with a specific focus on Central and Eastern European Countries; opportunities to increase regional cooperation related to the upcoming FP9 EC programme and other relevant international programmes in the period 2021-2027.

As a result, participants prepared a draft plan of joint follow-up initiatives focused on projects relevant to set up a common regional platform for regional CEE networks including research institutions as well as innovative and high-tech companies in Med/Pharm BT enabling them to act in cooperation with international centres.
