Romanian film producer Ada Solomon receives CEI Award 2018 at Trieste Film Festival

Romanian producer Ada Solomon, born in Bucharest in 1968, is the winner of the CEI Award (3.000 EUR) at the Trieste Film Festival.

As stated by the jury “Ada Solomon in ten years has established herself among the most important producers of Romania today, supporting young authors (primarily Radu Jude, of which she produced the entire filmography) and showing special attention to “reality cinema” and historical memory. A woman who has become a fundamental reference for New Romanian Cinema and for international co-productions.”

Ada Solomon has served as a line producer for foreign international projects such as Franco Zeffirelli's CALLAS FOREVER and Hermine Huntgeburth's TOM SAWYER & HUCK FINN.

Since 2004, by setting up her own company HiFilm, Ada has produced award-winning shorts by Cristian Nemescu & Radu Jude, debut features by Radu Jude (THE HAPPIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD), Razvan Radulescu (FIRST OF ALL, FELICIA), and documentaries by Alexandru Solomon (KAPITALISM - OUR IMPROVED FORMULA), among others.

She has also developed the docu-science-fiction TARZAN’s TESTICLES by Alexandru Solomon as well as Radu Jude's third feature AFERIM! after the award-winning EVERYBODY IN OUR FAMILY (premiered in Berlinale Forum, 2012), which received the Heart of Sarajevo for Best Film, among 16 other awards.

With CHILD’S POSE (Pozitia copilului) by Călin Peter Netzer, Ada Solomon produced the Golden Bear Winner of 2013.

Her productions were awarded in the most prestigious festivals, i.e. Berlinale, Locarno, Sundance.

The CEI, through its Cooperation Fund, is one of the sponsors of the Trieste Film Festival, the Italian leading appointment with Central and Eastern European cinema, offering a unique retrospective of quality filmmaking production from the CEI region.

In particular, the CEI supports the EASTWEEK – Script Writing Workshop for New Talents which, this year, has been turned into the first Midpoint Feature First Workshop thanks to cooperation between the Trieste Film Festival and Midpoint, the international script and project development program for emerging film professionals, based in Prague.

In the framework of the Festival, CEI support is also given to the co-production forum “When East Meets West” gathering funders, commissioning editors, sales agents, distributors and producers.
