Conference on "Professional Standards in Media – Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities" held in Novi Sad

The 2nd conference “Professional Standards in Media – Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities” took place In Novi Sad, Serbia on 8-10 December.
 
More than 170 participants took part in the 3-day event including a conference with four panels and a post-conference workshop for journalists. The workshop for journalists covered the following topics: the use of recommendations for professional reporting from the conferences in 2017 and 2015; improving cross-border cooperation in covering topics of persons with disabilities; cooperation between media; development of better communication channels  for persons with disabilities; training for journalists; supporting better living and working conditions of persons with disabilities; role of public RTV  and improving of reporting (report of the working group) and reporting of media.
 
During the main event, several keynote speakers welcomed the participants, including local politicians from the city of Novi Sad and province of Vojvodina. Reports from the conference were broadcast over several TV channels in Serbia.

The event aimed at developing recommendations for professional reporting about persons with disabilities in media, but also at helping all media in the region founded by associations of persons with disabilities to be more professional in their daily work and at supporting cross-border cooperation between media in covering the topic of persons with disabilities.
 
The International Academy is planning on organising another event on this topic in 2019.
 
The event was organised by the International Academy from Belgrade  in cooperation with the Special School Milan Petrovic and supported by CEI Cooperation Fund in partnership with International Institute- International Media Center (II-IMC),  South East and Central Europe PR Organisation (SECEPRO) and South East Europe Media Organisation (SEEMO).
