Leading experts and interested participants in the field of mosaic conservation gathered in Ohrid, Macedonia on 14-17 September on the occasion of the 3rd edition of the regional meeting SEE Mosaics “New perspectives and challenges in mosaic conservation”.

Invited speakers from SEE countries as well as from Austria, Italy and Spain discussed the role of conservation science in mosaic conservation, the classical and advanced documentation techniques as well as alternative movable support for detached mosaics. Each conference day was dedicated to one of the topics, encouraging all participants to share their experiences in solving different conservation challenges regarding this edition’s theme, as well as present their own activities and projects. During the meeting, excursions to other sites were organised in order to explore the current challenges in the field of mosaic conservation through given examples.

Traditionally, the meeting is held in Ohrid, a city known for its rich collection of antique mosaics listed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. Within the last meetings experts examined 22 sites with antique mosaics around Lake Ohrid.

The meeting was jointly organised by the Central Institute for Conservation in Belgrade and the Local Development Agency of Struga in the framework of the regional project SEE Mosaics and co-financed by the CEI Cooperation Fund.
