CEI Cooperation Fund: XVI summer seminar for young public policy professionals from Southeast Europe and Black Sea Region held in Bulgaria

The event, organised for the 16th year in a row by the Economic Policy Institute, gathered 34 young experts from public institutions, research centres and think-tanks from 9 CEI Member States (Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine) and Turkey. The main goal of the Seminar is to build a training hub among the region’s future decision-makers in order for them to improve their professional skills and establish fruitful mutual cooperation for the years to come.

This year’s edition “Public Policy Challenges – European and Regional Dimensions”, took place on 1 – 5 June 2015 at the Albena resort at the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The event is cofinanced by the CEI Cooperation Fund as well as by the Representation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, the Austrian Embassy in Bulgaria and the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

During the Seminar, the participants had the opportunity to work with prominent lecturers, including high-level officials from the European Commission, the World Bank, national institutions as well as with distinguished international experts and practitioners, diplomats and academics. Topics of regional importance as well as various public policy issues were addressed.

The agenda included Q&A sessions, interactive workshops and debates where participants had the chance to share their thoughts and everyday challenges regarding the current situation in the region. At the end of the Seminar, the young professionals were divided into five groups where they exchanged views on the possible future scenarios for the EU and their respective regions. *** The CEI Cooperation Fund, to which all the Member States contribute, co-finances Cooperation Activities - projects of small scale and limited duration, which mainly take the form of seminars, workshops, short training courses or other kind of meetings.
