RAIL4SEE partners meet in Zagreb

On 11-12 September 2014, RAIL4SEE Project Partners gathered in Zagreb, Croatia for an additional Project Meeting. Following the project extension, partners discussed the results of single pilots related to the hubs of Budapest, Thessaloniki, Bratislava, Zagreb, Vienna, Bologna, Venice, Trieste, Ljubljana, Sofia and Bucharest.

Huge results have been obtained in particular in the hub of Thessaloniki and Bologna, where the pilots have led to concrete long-term results: The establishment of a City Train line in Thessaloniki, connecting peripheral area and city center and the Integrated ticketing system in Bologna.

The RAIL4SEE project will play an important role also during the SEE Annual event in Ljubljana, where a site visit will be organised and a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the Castle in Ljubljana.

Partners also agreed upon the agenda and main results to be presented both in Ljubljana and at the Final Event foreseen on 15-16 October 2014 in Bologna.

The CEI has been working on the hubs of Venice and Trieste, focusing on the public transport connections between the Venice airport and the city of Venice/ Mestre and in Trieste on its transnational connection to Ljubljana and Vienna. As regards the latter hub, the CEI has been working on the Memorandum of Understanding to be signed between the transport operator Trieste transporti and the regional government of Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, to ensure an efficient bus-line connection between the train stations of Villa Opicina and Trieste. This would ensure smoother connections to Vienna, through the MICOTRA train line – Udine – Villach, deriving from an EUfunded project – MICOTRA.
