CEI Ministers of Foreign Affairs Confirm Key Role of CEI in Promoting Regional Cooperation for European Integration

The Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CEI Member States (Trieste, 13 June 2012), was dedicated to the topic “Regional Cooperation for European Integration and Bridge between Macro-regions”. The Ministerial meeting was chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Kostyantyn Gryschenko and offered the opportunity to assess recent developments in the region. All participants underlined the crucial role of the CEI as political forum in support of the European integration process and economic reforms of the countries of South-Eastern and Eastern Europe. In this regard, they commended the overall progress of the countries which are still not members of the EU, but have European integration as a primary objective in their country policies. They noted that every individual progress has contributed to the promotion of the Enlargement policy.

The meeting also discussed the perspective of CEI cooperation with the European Union and the European Commission. The Ministers reiterated their support to the involvement of the CEI in the macro-regional strategies and to the project-oriented work of the CEI. They praised not only the political and economic, but also the scientific, cultural cooperation in the region promoted by the CEI. They also expressed appreciation for the results achieved through the CEI funds and instruments and for the work carried out by the CEI Secretariat in advancing the CEI agenda.   The Ministers approved the CEI Cooperation Fund budget for 2013, to which all Member States contribute.   The Communiqué adopted by the Ministers is available here.
