(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 22 OTT - "As you are aware, Italy regards the reunification of the Western Balkans with the EU as a top priority. In the current political and international climate, we need to do more. We must fully commit to this reunification and send a strong message to Russia and other nations—because you are Europe. We must protect the credibility, predictability, and quality of the enlargement process, ensuring an approach to accession based on merit and avoiding any'second-class' memberships." Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani stated this during his address to the Berlin Process leaders' summit. "Montenegro and Albania have shown that when reforms are implemented, the accession process can produce tangible results." Italy will take over the EU presidency in the first half of 2028. This will be an excellent opportunity to celebrate the addition of new members to the European family. Other countries will follow," Tajani emphasized. "Italy is prepared to contribute to the region. The Balkan nations are essential partners in the promotion of economic security, the reinforcement of supply chains, the assurance of food security, and the improvement of connectivity. I am of the opinion that it is imperative to devote complete attention to the development of Corridor 8 and Corridor 10, as they are essential for the integration of a greater portion of Europe into the Western Balkans." At the same time, he emphasised the importance of remaining committed to the IMEC Corridor. (ANSA).
