New polls in Serbia show Students ahead of Vučić, but the results vary

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 20 OTT - With five days until Sunday's crucial snap parliamentary elections in Serbia, the latest polls consistently show a highly polarised situation and an atmosphere reminiscent of a referendum. However, there is no consensus on who is actually in the lead, thanks in part to an undecided voter segment ranging from 11% to 16%, with results varying depending on the polling organisation. According to a survey by the independent Serbian polling institute NSPM, as reported by the Huffington Post, the "Students' List" (Studentska Lista) stands at 44.4%, while the "United Serbia" (Ujedinjena Srbija) coalition led by Aleksandar Vučić is at 41.7%. Another independent institute, Birodi, suggests that the students have a nearly 10% lead over United Serbia, with the students at 48.5% (with a margin of 45.9% to 51.1%) and United Serbia at 38.6% (with an estimated range of 36.3% to 40.9%). In contrast, an estimate from Faktor Plus—an organisation considered close to the government establishment—places United Serbia at 48.6%, approaching an absolute majority, while the students' list is at 37.1%, despite the latter's growth. According to polls, voter turnout in Serbia has surpassed 58.5% in the December 2023 elections, won by Vučić's SNS party and coalition. This is the highest turnout in at least two decades. (ANSA).
