(ANSA) - BELGRADE, 01 OTT - The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced today that an investment will make Montenegro's main railway link between the Port of Bar, Podgorica, and the border with Serbia safer and more dependable. The state-owned railway company of Montenegro will be able to fund the rehabilitation of the 39 km Golubovci-Bar section of the line with a €50 million loan from the EBRD. Eleven bridges, three train stations, and the tracks will all be renewed as part of the project. Signalling, telecommunications, and power supply systems will also be upgraded. It is anticipated that the investment will enhance travel times and safety, lower operating and maintenance expenses, and promote a switch from road to rail, all of which will contribute to a decrease in carbon emissions associated with transportation. The project is a component of a larger investment made possible by the Western Balkans Investment Framework. The European Union (EU) is contributing €112.6 million in grants in addition to the EBRD financing, and the European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending €63 million. (ANSA).
