(ANSA) - BERLINO, JUL 21 - Late yesterday evening, the new British Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, spoke by phone with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Both reportedly expressed a desire to continue the close cooperation between the two countries and to press ahead with the implementation of the Kensington Treaty, the German government stated in Berlin that evening. The German-British Friendship Treaty was signed by Merz on July 17, 2025, in London with Burnham's predecessor, Keir Starmer. In light of Russia's war of aggression, Merz and Burnham reportedly agreed to "continue to fully support Ukraine and increase pressure on Russia." (ANSA).
