Iter Goritiense joins the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional trails network

(ANSA) - UDINE, 16 LUG - The Iter Goritiense, the 82-kilometer trail linking the Patriarchal Basilica of Aquileia to Sveta Gora, above Nova Gorica, Slovenia, has been officially recognized as a Regional Trail and added to the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Trails Network. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Society for the Conservation of the Basilica of Aquileia. The recognition, granted by decree of the director general of PromoTurismoFvg, strengthens the route created through the European Walk2Spirit project under the 2021-2027 Interreg Italy-Slovenia Program. Since its official opening in 2024, the trail has been traveled by more than 1,000 hikers and pilgrims. The route crosses the Aquileia countryside, the Karst plateau, Mount San Michele, Brestovec, Miren, Gorizia, and Nova Gorica, connecting places of historical, cultural, and natural significance. A new Web App, developed with TMedia, will soon be added to the website, maps, signage, and official guide, providing hikers with updated information and interactive tools. The new accreditation was the focus of a technical roundtable held at the Kulturni Dom in Gorizia, attended by local officials and tourism bodies from both Italy and Slovenia. The aim is to strengthen the promotion of the Iter Goritiense on national and international tourism circuits and generate economic benefits for the areas along the route, while enhancing the legacy of Go!2025.
