Mittelfest turns to fear to explore what lies beyond our control

(ANSA) - CIVIDALE DEL FRIULI, 15 LUG - Fear as a key to understanding what lies beneath everyday life and events beyond our control. This is the central theme of the 35th edition of Mittelfest, the Central European culture festival running from tomorrow through July 26 in Cividale del Friuli, with 32 artistic productions from 16 countries spanning theater, music, dance and circus, including 20 world or Italian premieres. This will be the final edition under artistic director Giacomo Pedini, after six years in the role. Among the scheduled events, Andrea Bosca will star in the July 18 world premiere of "Bébi. Il primo amore," based on the novel by Sándor Márai and directed by Pedini. Alessio Boni will perform in "Era di maggio," receiving its world premiere on July 25 at the Teatro Verdi in Gorizia. Written by Flavio Santi and featuring the La Corelli Orchestra, the production focuses on the memory of the 1976 earthquake. On July 20, at the Zorzettig winery, Alessandro Baricco will stage "Una Traviata da cortile," a popular reinterpretation of Verdi's opera. Piazza Duomo will host Vasko Vassilev, concertmaster of London's Royal Opera House, with the Covent Garden Soloists Quintet on July 17, followed by Dagadana on July 19 and Romano Drom on July 22. The program also includes the world premiere of "Chi perdona," by Jeton and Blerta Neziraj, a seven-country co-production exploring forgiveness as a means of social healing, and "Una madre coraggio," Michele Santeramo's adaptation of Bertolt Brecht, performed by Laura Marinoni.
