Serbia will move ahead with accession if it keeps its reform commitments: Kos

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 14 - Serbia will be able to move forward with its EU accession process if it continues to implement its reform commitments, said, Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, adding that the path of candidate countries is primarily determined by their ability to "deliver results." "For a country to move forward in the accession process, it must first fulfil its commitments," Kos stated. "Second, the Commission must be able to explain to Member States the reasons behind its recommendations, such as the opening of Cluster 3. Finally, Member States must recognise the advantages of a country's continued European integration." Referring to Belgrade, the Commissioner stated, "After the setbacks highlighted in last year's enlargement report, Serbia has made some progress." However, she added, "much remains to be done, particularly in terms of the rule of law." (ANSA).
