Extreme heat causes a surge in drownings in Germany, with 99 deaths in June

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUL 13 - Last month, during an extreme heat wave, the number of people who died in water in Germany was the highest in a June in more than 20 years. The German Lifesaving Society (DLRG) reported that at least 99 people drowned. The previous highest number of water deaths in June occurred during the scorching summer of 2003, when 107 people died.
