France rejects boycott of Eurovision against Israel

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 5 - France confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2026 and its support for Israel's participation in the song contest, thereby opposing the boycott announced by several countries, including Spain and Ireland. In an interview with Agence France Presse, a France Télévisions spokesperson reiterated the French public broadcaster's support for the Israeli network KAN's participation in the event, which is set to take place in Austria in May 2026. Eurovision is organised by European Broadcasting Union (EBU) member channels, including France Télévision, which is currently led by President Delphine Ernotte Cunci. During the EBU General Assembly yesterday in Geneva, "a large majority" of European public broadcasters "agreed not to hold a vote on Israel's participation," which several states oppose due to the situation in Gaza. The announcement prompted several countries to withdraw, including Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Slovenia. In an interview with X, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot praised Eurovision for resisting pressure and preventing a boycott of Israel. (ANSA).
