Czechia: Pavel, Babis must resolve conflict of interest

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 4 - Nearly two months have passed since the legislative elections, and the Czech Republic still lacks a new government. While President Petr Pavel continues to hold informal consultations with the fifteen ministerial candidates from the three parties in the likely future coalition (ANO, SPD, and Automovil), Andrej Babis (ANO) has yet to explain how he intends to resolve his conflict of interest if appointed prime minister. Furthermore, the head of state remains opposed to Filip Turek's nomination as Environment Minister due to previous racist remarks made by the Automovil candidate. This morning, the President of the Republic stated that he expects Babis to announce by the end of this week how he intends to resolve his conflict of interest regarding his ownership of the agri-food holding company Agrofert, which receives numerous European subsidies.
