North Macedonia holds local elections tomorrow

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCT 18 - Voting in North Macedonia's local elections begins tomorrow. This election is also viewed as a nationwide test for the two opposing political forces—the ruling conservative party VMRO-DPMNE and the opposition Social Democratic Party SDSM—and their coalition partners. More than 300 candidates are running for mayor, with 575 lists competing in 80 municipalities, beginning with the capital Skopje, for a total of 1.83 million voters. The election campaign, which pitted six coalitions and 26 political parties against 56 independent candidates and 67 civic lists, officially ended at midnight last night after 20 days. The debate focused on public transport, urban cleanliness, urban planning, traffic, and corruption, which affects all levels of political and administrative activity. (ANSA).
