Moldovan PM, cyberattacks on vote, 4,000 sites halted

(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, SEP 28 - "Yesterday and today, the infrastructure related to the electoral process was the target of several attempted cyber attacks." Moldova's Premier Dorin Recean denounced this on Facebook, explaining that hackers targeted the official portal of the Central Election Commission and several polling stations abroad."All attacks have been detected and neutralized in real time, without affecting the election process," but, he pointed out, "currently the national cybersecurity agency (Stisc) has ordered the blocking of the host.md platform due to a massive attack, which has rendered about 4,000 sites inoperative." "The attacks are orchestrated simultaneously," he added. Meanwhile, the leader of the pro-Russian Patriotic Bloc and former Moldovan president, Igor Dodon, upon exiting the polling station, said, "I voted for a country where people are respected, helped, feel free, and are not afraid. I voted for the national interest in the economy, for the development of agriculture, for good relations with everyone, for understanding in society, and to avoid any conflict. Today power is in the hands of the people. Today political power trembles before the people. I call on citizens to take advantage of this day so that tomorrow Moldova can return to freedom, democracy, normality, without fear and without dictatorship." Dodon accused pro-European President Maia Sandu of wanting to "nullify the results of the parliamentary elections," saying that "the victory of the opposition is now clear." "We must not allow our votes to be cancelled," he warned, announcing a "peaceful protest in front of Parliament" tomorrow at 12 noon. (ANSA).
