(ANSA) - SARAJEVO, JUL 8 - U.S. President Donald Trump announced, in a letter to the presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 30 percent tariffs on products from the Balkan country. "I am honored to send you this letter because it demonstrates the strength and commitment of our trade relations and the fact that the United States has agreed to continue cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina, despite the significant trade deficit with your great country," the president wrote in the letter sent to Zeljka Cvijanovic, a Serbian member and rotating chair of the tripartite presidency. "Unfortunately, our relations were not reciprocal. As of August 1, 2025, the United States will impose a tariff of only 30 percent on all products from Bosnia and Herzegovina imported into the United States, in addition to all existing sectoral tariffs. Goods transported through other countries to circumvent this tax will be subject to even higher duties," Trump wrote. "Note, he added, that the 30 percent figure is significantly lower than what is needed to eliminate the trade deficit we have with your country. As you know, there will be no tariffs if Bosnia and Herzegovina or companies from your country decide to build or produce in the United States. In that case, we will do our best to get approvals quickly, professionally and systematically, that is, within a few weeks." (ANSA).
