Hungary, police ban Pride organized by the city hall

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, JUN 19 - Although Mayor Karacsony did not request permission, the police prohibited the Pride of June 28, which was organised by the city hall as its own demonstration titled 'Budapest Pride'. In a statement, the Budapest Police Headquarters stated that the mayor's announcement that he will organise the march in the form of a celebration of Budapest's liberation was interpreted as a request for a demonstration under the terms of the assembly law, and that it is therefore prohibited, citing minor protection.
