Go!2025: the European carnival kicks off with Guggenmusik

(ANSA) - GORIZIA, 17 FEB - Today marked the presentation of the 29th edition of Eurocarnevale—European Carnival. This event aims to unite tradition, culture, and international music to celebrate Nova Gorica and Gorizia as the European Capital of Culture 2025. The main event will take place in Gorizia on February 22, but a special preview is scheduled for Trieste on February 21. The parade will showcase 18 groups from Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Slovenia, and Friuli Venezia Giulia, highlighting the carnival's cross-border and multicultural essence. A distinctive feature of the event will be Guggenmusik, a musical style that originated in Basel, Switzerland, in the latter half of the 20th century. Initially developed for the carnival season, Guggenmusik is characterized by raw and dissonant arrangements based on recognizable melodies mixed in incorrect musical scales. "The Chamber of Commerce Venezia Giulia," said President Antonio Paoletti, "is promoting various initiatives as part of Go!2025, and the European Carnival is one of them. These days will be filled with joy, engaging families and young people, with tourists and enthusiasts arriving from all parts of the region and beyond. The bands will parade to play and celebrate with audiences in the cities where they perform. We expect over 570 musicians in Gorizia, with a scheduled stop in Nova Gorica." "Everything is ready for a weekend full of music and fun," emphasized Mayor Rodolfo Ziberna. "Hundreds of people are expected to arrive, eager to celebrate and spread joy and music throughout our community. It will be a wonderful opportunity to visit the city." (ANSA).
