SG Antonione pays visit to Belgrade

A delegation from the CEI-Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES), led by Secretary General Roberto Antonione, visited Belgrade on 24 February to meet with the First Deputy Prime Minister responsible for foreign policy and security and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ivica Dačić.

Discussions primarily focused on the importance of regional cooperation, and the role regional organisations such as the CEI are playing in the European integration process, especially in supporting the non-EU CEI countries, all of which are EU candidates on their path to the European Union.

In this regard, Minister Dačić, strongly confirmed his country’s commitment to regional cooperation and the CEI, highlighting that Serbia would continue to strongly support and actively be involved in its activities. The European integration of Serbia was also at the centre of discussions.

Secretary General Antonione presented the recent tangible CEI activities designed to foster the European integration of the countries concerned and future plans in this regard. The interlocutors agreed on the importance of the process, contributing to the stability and security of the continent; underlined the importance of enhancement of direct communication and cooperation between the CEI-ES and the CEI Member States, and agreed to continue with periodical meetings of this kind.
