3rd clustering workshop on knowledge and innovation communities (KICs) held in Berlin

The workshop on 2 July, was organised in the framework of the Danube-INCO.NET EU-funded project where the CEI participates as one of the 19 partners from the Danube macro-region. The event was organised within Work Package 3, implemented by the CEI and dedicated to “Tackling societal challenges: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in a Bio-based Economy”.

The one-day event at the offices of the DLR Project Management Agency in Berlin, focused on Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) and possible outreach activities in the Danube Region. Strategic and practical aspects of cooperation and potential future activities were also discussed. Twenty participants took part in the gathering, including representatives of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and several KICs: (KIC InnoEnergy, Climate KIC, KIC EIT Raw Materials) as well as project partners and stakeholders from across the Danube Region.

This was the third Clustering Workshop in a row focusing on European networking instruments and possibilities of cooperation with the Danube Region. Package 3 includes five Clustering Workshops, one Brokerage Event and one Triple-Helix Conference. Each of the three Clustering Workshops organised in 2015 provided information for the Danube Countries on European networking instruments, and discussed possibilities for developing and strengthening networking and cooperation possibilities.

The first Clustering Workshop focused on the European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) and took place on 3 February, 2015 in Trieste/Italy. The second Clustering Workshop was held on 28 April, 2015 in Stuttgart/Germany and dealt with European Technology Platforms (ETPs). The Danube-INCO.NET project will support two pilot activities as a follow-up to the Clustering Workshops.
