WBC-INCO.NET Project: Final Conference held in Vienna

The WBC-INCO.NET Final Conference "Towards 2020: New Horizons for RTD and Western Innovation in the Balkan Region” was held in Vienna on 27-28 March 2014, bringing together about 200 science policymakers, scientists and industry representatives from the Western Balkans and EU Member States. The main focus of the event was on the EU Framework programme for research and innovation, Horizon 2020, and on the collaboration in the field of science between Western Balkan Countries (WBC) and EU countries.

This gathering was held back-to-back with a Brokerage event, aimed at supporting networking and cooperation between WBC and EU researchers and focusing on sectors such as Energy, ICT and Societies’ Research. Both meetings featured dozens of bilateral B2B meetings and more than 30 round tables respectively.

The conference provided a chance for coordinators of projects focusing on the Western Balkan Region to promote their own work and results and create connections for a project continuation and/or new research activities. Around ten projects were presented at the project exhibition attended by 15 countries (150 active participants and 260 registrations).

The WBC-INCO.NET (Coordination of Research policies with the Western Balkan Countries) is a Project was funded from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research and technological development.

The CEI participated in the conference in its capacity as Observer. The special Advisor to CEI Secretary-General, Giorgio Rosso Cicogna, took part in the panel on “Improving the Performance of Research and Innovation Sector in WBC”, held on Friday 28 March.
