CEI Secretary General Dal Mas Meets Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Foreign Minister Konaković

The CEI continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to fostering regional dialogue and supporting European integration.

Today in Sarajevo, Secretary General, Hon. Franco Dal Mas, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković.

During the meeting, Dal Mas presented the CEI’s strategic priorities and reaffirmed the Organisation’s full support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards EU integration. He also acknowledged the country’s active and constructive role within the CEI framework:

“The CEI is committed to supporting European integration, promoting regional stability, and strengthening tools for practical cooperation. The active involvement of the Western Balkans is more essential than ever to build a more cohesive and secure Europe – as also highlighted by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, during his official visit to our Secretariat at the end of March,” said Secretary General Dal Mas.

Among the key topics discussed was the “Falcone-Borsellino” programme - a joint initiative of the Serbian CEI Presidency and Italy – aimed at strengthening the fight against organised crime and corruption. Ongoing efforts to improve regional connectivity were also addressed, particularly in relation to the Western Balkans–Eastern Mediterranean corridor.

Minister Konaković expressed strong appreciation for the CEI’s efforts, noting that Bosnia and Herzegovina regards the Initiative as a reliable partner and a crucial platform for advancing stability, development, and concrete cooperation across the region. He reaffirmed the country’s commitment to actively contributing to the Organisation’s work, especially at this pivotal time for the future of the Western Balkans and Europe:

“The current political context must be seen as an opportunity to advance European integration,” he said.

Both parties also reiterated their support for Ukraine and welcomed the recent appointment of a Ukrainian Deputy Secretary General to the CEI Secretariat.

A key upcoming event for the CEI in Bosnia and Herzegovina is taking place in Sarajevo on 27 May 2025. Organised jointly by the CEI, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the EBRD, and Bosnian institutions, the event will showcase the results of the operations supported by the CEI Fund at the EBRD.

Secretary General Dal Mas extended an invitation to Minister Konaković for an official visit to the CEI Headquarters in Trieste.
