The Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative (RAI) Secretariat successfully held the 19th Edition of the Summer School for Junior Anti-Corruption Practitioners from Southeast Europe (SEE) in Bucharest, Romania, on 11-14, June 2024. This year’s programme, titled "Unveiling Corruption: Introduction to Asset Recovery and Financial Investigation Techniques," focused on equipping junior prosecutors, anti-corruption practitioners, and financial investigators with the knowledge needed for effective asset recovery and financial investigations.
Experts from AML Consulting Global provided valuable insights into international best practices, money laundering typologies, and advanced investigative techniques. Participants also benefited from sessions on Emotional Intelligence (EI) and critical thinking to enhance their professional and personal skills. A key highlight was the use of the View360Global immersive platform, which simulated real-world anti-corruption investigations and fostered teamwork and strategic decision-making.
In this setting, CEI-Executive Secretariat representative Ugo Poli, while emphasising the foundational importance of good governance for the success of the European integration process, which is central to the CEI's mission, highlighted that
“strong institutional capacity and good governance are the cornerstones of democratic stability and security as well as a conditional asset for European integration and sustainable development.”
Upon completing the programme, attendees received the RAI Summer School Certificate of Attendance and the UK Skills for Justice (SFJ) Accreditation, which assures that the training met high academic and professional standards.
The programme, which began in 2005, continues to be a vital platform for young professionals across Southeast Europe to learn, exchange experiences, and build lasting networks. This year’s Summer School in particular welcomed 20 participants from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Ukraine. The event was hosted by the Southeast European Law Enforcement Center (SELEC).
